Welcome to the 2nd part of our ongoing series of tips for PA and NP students on their clinical rotations

Do inquire about the best evidence-based practices for common conditions you may encounter.

Do NOT suggest alternative treatment options to the patient without consulting your preceptor first.

It’s great that you are learning,

but never challenge your preceptor in front of their patient.

Do ask many questions between patient cases – this is how you learn!

Do NOT inquire about treatment for yourself or your family members.

Your preceptor is likely teaching you without receiving compensation.

Do not also ask them to provide you with free medical care.

Do let your preceptor know if you need to leave the clinic early that day.

Courtesy of TikTok user @Chrispacwv65, do NOT sneak out early and think no one will notice.

Your preceptors are human beings

and understand that essential commitments arise outside of the clinic.

As long as you don’t abuse it,

you will probably be allowed to leave early.
