My husband and I just returned from a long weekend visiting our friend, RJ, in New York. We had the BEST time: an amazing dinner at Centurion NYC, morning strolls through Central Park (I finally saw the beautiful “Imagine” mosaic at Strawberry Fields), a couple of days at the beach on Fire Island, saw Lea Michele shine in “Funny Girl” on Broadway, ate delicious salmon rigatoni at Felice Columbus, and culminating with an early morning visit to Good Morning America studios to meet with the gracious Robin Roberts (she is as kind in person as she is on television). We had an amazing trip.
During one of our Central Park explorations, I wondered about APP practice in New York.
In the spirit of the trip, here are a few quick facts about APPs in New York State:
New York has over 20,000 NPs [1] and 19,300 licensed PAs [2].
New York State passed legislation allowing NPs full practice authority in 2022 [3]. Great legislative work, NY NPs!
>30% of NPs in New York work in primary care, and more than 60% of NPs practice in an outpatient setting [4].
>16% of PAs in New York work in primary care, and approximately 50% practice in an outpatient setting [5].
