APPs now provide 1/4 of our nation’s healthcare

A quarter of the U.S. healthcare visits are now provided by PAs and NPs.

The British Medical Journal looked at the percentage of clinicians providing healthcare services nationally, including all medical specialties and clinical conditions.

“… Our results do not support the idea that nurse practitioners and physician assistants are simply replacing physicians in a one-to-one fashion. Rather, clinicians are complementing each other with nurse practitioners and physician assistants having a greater focus on some types of visits, possibly where their training and expertise is best suited.”
