The impossible task of separating politics from medicine

Are you tired of all of the politics in the news?

I confess – I am not.

I love politics.

I find politics fascinating. It makes me happy. It makes me sad. It inspires me. Sometimes it makes me so frustrated and angry that I can’t sleep at night.

These days, if I’m not mom-ing, wife-ing, or dermatology PA-ing… my brain is on politics and this upcoming election. Locally and nationally, there are so many important issues at stake right now. I’m attending in-person and virtual political meetings, sending emails to legislators, writing postcards to friends and neighbors about our local school board, conversing with colleagues about bipartisan compromise, and texting with friends about what we should do next.

For this reason, APP Colleague’s weekly “perspective” will temporarily focus on the relationship between politics and medicine. My brain cannot think of anything else related to PA and NP practice right now, so I’m just going to lean into it.

Thanks for bearing with me during this election cycle.

See you on the other side of November 5th,

Nikki Rataj Casady, DMSc, PA-C
